Music Remote puts the Music app of another Mac in your menu bar: a Mac mini on the stereo, played from your MacBook as if it were the MacBook’s own Music.
What you can do
- Now Playing: artwork, the current track, progress, play and pause, skip, shuffle, repeat, volume and love, with your Mac’s media keys and Control Center.
- Search your library by title, artist or album.
- Browse playlists and folders as in Music’s sidebar, an album grid with covers, and artists.
- Up Next: queue songs and albums to play next.
- Speakers: play to AirPlay speakers, several at once, each with its own volume.
- Yamaha receivers: power, input, sound mode, mute and volume, right next to the music.
Set up
Install Music Remote on both Macs. On the Mac that plays the music, open Settings → This Mac and turn on Let other Macs control Music on this Mac. Every other Mac with the app finds it on your network by itself: no pairing codes.
Install
- Homebrew:
brew install --cask goudsmit-tech/tap/gt-music-remote - Download the DMG, open it and drag Music Remote to Applications.
Requires macOS 15 Sequoia or later.
Privacy
Music Remote collects no data: it talks to your own Macs on your home network. The one exception is looking up missing album artwork at Apple. Privacy policy
